Acoustics Volume 1 EP
September
Lately I’ve been showing signs
Of far too many starting lines
I remember when ours was the only one
But some part of me can’t help react
To every ready, set and sudden crack
There I go again jumping off the gun
But I’ve grown so tired of all these ways
And the marathons that run for days
My body’s broke from all of this pursuit
And I’ve felt it as our candles burn
Out by the point of no return
How I miss you babe, do you miss me too
Come inside love, come and rest with me
Cause we’ve been working hard love
It’s time to let things be
Those seven sweet September days
The thunderstorms and your western ways
It was harvest time and every taste was new
We hopped the gates and slipped the guards
And traded wounds like baseball cards
Now I miss you babe, do you miss me too
Come inside love, come and rest with me
Cause we’ve been working hard love
It’s time to let things be what they’re gonna be
Cause right now what I need
Is just you with me
Oh tell me love do you remember
By the river’s edge, we just watched it flow
And the sweetness of that September
Oh now tell me love, where did it go
So let them have their starting lines
Cause I’ve lost my taste for things that shine
And I was never great with the follow through
I want to take some time with every step
Before my weary mind forgets
That I miss you babe, do you miss me too
Come inside love, come and rest with me
Cause we’ve been working hard love
It’s time to let things be what they’re gonna be
Cause right now what I need
Is just you with me
You and Me
Take my hand and walk with me
This was heaven’s plan, we were meant to be
You’re my best friend, you’ve always been here by my side
And we’ll laugh and sing now as we grow
About everything that we come to know
Walk this wondrous world together stride by stride
You see you and me
We were meant to be
Like a pair of voices that blend in perfect harmony
And whether near or far
You’ll be a guiding star
‘Cause part of home for me is gonna always be right where you are
So let’s get going now, let’s explore
Look out every window, open every door
As we jump and we climb and we hop and we skip and run
There’s so much to see and so much to do
And the best part is that I’ll be with you
‘Cause when we’re together now we have so much fun
You see you and me
We were meant to be
Like a pair of voices that blend in perfect harmony
And whether near or far
You’ll be a guiding star
‘Cause part of home for me is gonna always be right where you are
And don’t get scared when you’re on your own
‘Cause there’ll be plenty of times we have to go it alone
See we’re each so strong, yes me and you
We can do it ourselves, it’s just better with two
When the sun goes down at the end of the day
And the moon and the stars come out to play
And we settle down, our busy bustling day complete
Well it’s no surprise that my greatest prayer
Is the thanks I give that you’re right here
As I’m drowsy and dreaming and drifting off to sleep
You see you and me
We were meant to be
Like a pair of voices that blend in perfect harmony
And whether near or far
You’ll be a guiding star
‘Cause part of home for me is gonna always be right where you are
You see you and me
We were meant to be
We were meant to be
Complicated
Remember how it started well
With ribbons, cake and chiming bells
It felt just like a fairy tale
As we said forever
And as we left the hall that night
The moon and the stars were our delight
But even the heavens’ hallowed light
Won’t last forever
Love, it’s complicated
Love, once the daylight’s faded
Shadows climb our walls and make it
Complicated
Love, you were a trusted friend
Don’t leave me here to begin again
It’s just this little mess I’m in
And it’s complicated
Heroes, artists, me and you
Ready to build our something new
Thought the pretty pictures that we drew
Would last forever
But questions were your favorite art
And the scaffolding soon fell apart
Can heroes finish what they start
If it takes forever
Love, it’s complicated
Love, once the daylight’s faded
Shadows climb our walls and make it
Complicated
Love, you were a trusted friend
Don’t leave me here to begin again
It’s just this little mess I’m in
And it’s complicated
Now I don’t believe in fairy tales
Cause flowers die and heroes fail
I see it babe around me all the time
We went wandering from our neighborhood
Through a dark and foggy wood
Tell me what’d we ever hope to find
Is it a choice that’s yours and mine
And so here we are just like the start
The two of us and our work of art
Just another mystery of the heart
That goes on forever
But no one knows me like you do
And girl you know it’s the same for you
So be with me and I’ll be with you
Now and forever
Love, it’s complicated
Love, once the daylight’s faded
Shadows climb our walls and make it
Complicated
Love, you were a trusted friend
Don’t leave me here to begin again
It’s just this little mess I’m in
And it’s complicated
I don’t believe in fairy tales
Cause flowers die and heroes fail
And love it ain’t no fairy tale
It’s complicated
I don’t believe in fairy tales
Cause flowers die and heroes fail
And love it ain’t no fairy tale
It’s complicated
Butterfly
Butterfly at my window there
Have you got something to offer
And something to share ‘cause I
I’ve been stuck here all alone
Just trying to get past the seeds I’ve sown
Butterfly, don’t fly away
Cause butterfly, I think I need you to stay
You might be wondering, it might seem strange
But I’ve been thinking you know
Something about change
So be my teacher and be my friend
Cause I need some help now starting over again
Butterfly, don’t fly away
Cause butterfly, I think I need you to stay
Do you remember, were you unprepared
And in that darkness,
Did you get scared
Cause you, you know I’m frightened by
Those sorts of things but I
I want to do what it takes now to get those wings
Cause butterfly, I want to fly away
Butterfly, I want to fly away
I want to fly away
Superman
I remember empty jars and fireflies
And fireworks on the Fourth of July
And Jenny O in the yellow house across the street
Cutting deals with baseball cards
And the Little League fields where we were stars
Rode my bike so fast thinking I could somehow beat that heat
I was so young, I felt invincible
Like some childhood Superman
Sometimes I can close my eyes and it’s all right here but I
I’ll never walk those roads
I’ll never walk those roads again
A few years later running free
Full of piss and possibility
Going faster, going higher, going longer too
It was any way or any how
Like a man of steel with a twisted vow
If it didn’t kill me it would only make me stronger
I was so young, I felt invincible
Like some teenage Superman
Sometimes I can close my eyes and it’s all right here but I
I’ll never walk those roads
I’ll never walk those roads again
I’ve got a head that’s full of worry now
That’s never sure and don’t know how
Those simple answers I no longer understand
Bravado’s now just a trait of fools
And I ain’t as quick to break the rules
And it’s still hard to say but sometimes I just need a hand
Tell me where’d you go
Where are you Superman
Late at night when they’re all asleep
And all my thoughts are running deep
And my mind starts rolling backwards playing tricks on me
Tell my why the hell do I still care
They’re just reflections in some rearview mirror
And I can’t say for sure just what it is I see
I was so young, I felt invincible
Like some hero Superman
Sometimes I can close my eyes and it’s all right here but I
I’ll never walk those roads
I’ll never walk those roads again
So tell me where’d you go
Where are you Superman
Shangri-La
Do you remember how it went
The song we wrote, the time we spent
Did it get so loud you had to cover up your ears
And like critics with their pens
Your silly thoughts that would not end
Laid a welcome mat for all those doubts and fears
And that was the end of Shangri-La
A fait accompli madame n’est-ce pas?
All our hopes and dreams blew out
That window you unlocked
I think I saw them running down the block
And so they forced their way inside
And our hopes and dreams, they could not hide
‘Cause doubts and fears got such an awesome sense of smell
And then it really wasn’t long
Before we heard that other song
The one we never liked but learned to sing so well
And that was the end of Shangri-La
A fait accompli madame n’est-ce pas?
All our hopes and dreams blew out
That window you unlocked
I think I saw them running down the block
They used our telly and our phone
Ate us out of house and home
I’ve never felt like such a helpless little man
But darling all those doubts and fears
They’re the reason for your tears
And we don’t need another witness on the stand
Now that they’re gone
Our hopes and dreams, our favorite song
With the house in such an awful disarray
A window opened to the breeze
The cold wind blows in from the trees
How’d it feel as you watched them drift away
And that was the end of Shangri-La
A fait accompli madame n’est-ce pas?
All our hopes and dreams blew out
That window you unlocked
I think I saw them running down the block
